Colorado Part IV

Dear Friends and Family,

Royal Gorge, Colorado has the  highest suspension bridge in the United States. It was built across the Royal Gorge which is 1,000 feet below the bridge.  The Arkansas River cascades at the bottom of the gorge.  We walked across the bridge and rode back across the gorge in a gondola.  It was well worth our visit with a movie relating the history of the area and the bridge. We spent only one night here after dropping off our UK friends at the Denver area earlier in the day.  Then off to Pagosa Springs, CO to soak and relax.  The drive south through the Wolf Pass was a spectacular painting of colorful aspens.  It snowed on us lightly as we came over the the 11,000  foot elevation but we soon came into Pagosa Springs at 7,000 feet high. It was raining here but it didn’t matter as we were soaking in 105 degree waters in the baths. The hot springs are all over the small city of 1700 people.  You can see the steam rising all over.  Some hot springs spill right in the river. We relaxed and soaked more after a work out at a local gym the next day as it rained.  Pagosa Springs also has several fun restaurants with good food and entertainment.  We would definitely recommend both destinations to you all.  We met people in the baths who had traveled from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Arizona, and other destinations in Colorado just  to take the waters. So thoroughly soaked and pickled, we are ready to move on west.  Watch for more posts in the future.  Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Cheers,

Susan and Jim
