Camping in No. California 2017
Dear Friends and Family,
We just spent a lovely week over 4th of July camping at Lake Almanor. The lake is the highest it has been in years and many other campers were enjoying the beauty with us. For those of you who do not know where Lake Almanor is, it is east of Red Bluff, Ca off of highway 36 and 89. We like to camp in the P G & E campground called Rocky Point. It has pit toilets and no hook ups so it is just “dry” camping which we love. Since the elevation is 4,500 feet we were greeted by sunshine, blue skies and warm temperatures during the day but at night the weather cooled down. The small town of Chester is a 15 minute drive from the campground. One morning, we went into Chester to enjoy a gym and visit their lovely market. On the 4th, there was a local parade and wonderful fireworks over the lake at dusk. One morning, we drove the jeep off road to Butt Lake, just west of Lake Almanor. There is a paved road to the first campground on the lake, then it is a dirt road winding around the lake. We had lovely views and were in the forest alone because of the road. The jeep loves those types of roads. But boy did the jeep end up filthy!
After relaxing days at Lake Almanor, we drove to Lake Tahoe and tried to avoid the crowds. Lots of snow is still on the mountains. We visited friends for a couple of days and went to Baron lake, a small local lake, then ate at the McDuff Pub. Great times to be had. We had a relaxing trip. We hope that all of you are enjoying the summer as well.
Remember to be good to yourselves. We leave in August for a 9 week Rocky Mountain camping trip. So for now we are enjoying home. Until next entry,
Cheers,
Susan and Jim
